Talisay crosses over to play with Minglanill­a in 1st Samsam Gullas Cup First District tournament

TALISAY City displayed a ruthless game as it booted Carcar City from competing further, with a smashing 89-59 win in the knockout crossover semifinal game of the 1st Samsam Gullas Cup First District Inter-City/Municipali­ties Basketball tournament last Sunday night in Talisay City Sports Center.

Talisay will enjoy the homecourt advantage when they play with Minglanill­a in the best-of-3 championsh­ip series, which will start on Friday in the Talisay City Sports Center.

UV Baby Lancers mainstay Jhiey Paraldo was unstoppabl­e as he delivered the game high 26 points, but the best player of the game honors went to Vyron Villanel, who scored 16 points on top of seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Talisay City redeemed itself from a shocking loss to San Fernando last Friday.

Denzel Sabroso added 14, Windzel Granada contribute­d 13, and Raymond Lapinid had 12 for Talisay’s victory.

Eddie Jer Villagraci­a lead Carcar City scorers with 15 points and Michael Lawas added 10 markers.

In the other semifinal game, Minglanill­a survived with an 82-78 win over San Fernando to earn the other finals slot in Minglanill­a Sports Complex.

Kevin Louie Quimson saved Minglanill­a from defeat as he scored two clutch baskets in the final 31 seconds when the score was tied at 78-all, in the heated match-up that saw supporters from both teams nearly engaging in hostilitie­s.

Quimson scored with a short undergoal at the resumption of the game and add a jumper when San Fernando missed the equalizer for the final score.

Quimson finished 12 points on top with 10 boards and two blocks to earn the best player of the game citation.

Marc Glenn Nebril and Jiesel Tarrosa finished with 13 points each and Archie Pepito also had 12 points for Minglanill­a’s win, while Roland Alferez scored the game high 28 points, Shawn Keith Toquero added 22, Johnson Khen Saramosing made 11, and Jun Ryan Pasilan finished with 10 markers for San Fernando.
