Another fake post earns police’s ire

Woman “reports” kidnappings of several girls in Talisay City

If found, FB user Yen Miles will be investigated, says Senior Supt. Eric Noble, Cebu Provincial Police Office director Police had tracked down to FB users who posted false information

THE head of the Talisay City Police Station has been ordered to track down the social media user who posted another fake kidnapping report.

Senior Supt. Eric Noble, Cebu Provincial Police Office director, said the kidnapping of a minor in the city posted by “Yen Miles,” a female Facebook user, is not true.

“Actually, umuwi na sa bahay ang bata (the minor is home),” he said. “May bata na minor, siguro pinagalitan ng magulang (Maybe the kid ran away after being scolded by parents)… Pumunta ang magulang sa pulis, ewan ko kung may kamag-anak na nag- post sa Facebook (The parents went to police and maybe a relative posted the incident on Facebook),” he told reporters yesterday.

Public warning

Miles will be investigated once she is found.

On her wall, she wrote: “Guys please pagamping mo specially mga babae kay bag-o lang naay nakidnap diri dapit amoa. Gisakay og van. Daghan daw sila puro babae. Gikan pa jud ni sila simba, mga bata pa. First year high school. Pila ra gud tawn ang kusog sa mga babae. Tagbaw nag pangita sila ug gitawagan na ang 911. Please stay safe guys kay kuyaw na kaayo karong panahona. Nigara na sad og sugod ning mga tawhana. Mura man ug mga way kasingkasing. Pray lang ta always (Everyone please take care, especially women. Girls who had come from church were kidnapped in our neighborhood. They were placed in a van. They must have in first year high school. Their relatives have been looking for them, and have already called 911. Everyone, be vigilant).”

More false reports

Last Nov. 12, a Facebook user named Sanche Rosell also posted a false report about a kidnapping in Barangay Tabok, Mandaue City.

Mayor Luigi Quisumbing met with the girl and admonished her for posting unverified information.

Rosell deactivated her account two days later, but she later reactivated it after she met with the mayor and issued a public apology.

Early this month, a student of a state university in Argao posted on her Facebook account that a Ceres bus was blocked by Abu Sayyaf bandits in Barangay Ocaña, Carcar City.

Police traced the account to a 17-year-old student, who claimed she was forced to post it on Facebook after she was duped by a friend.
