‘Mad Max’ actor chides reporter
Tom Hardy rebuffs a gay reporter who vaguely asked the actor about his sexuality.
Multiple publications have reported the “awkward” exchange between a reporter and Hardy, who was in a press conference for his film Legend at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Graeme Coleman, a reporter from Daily Xtra, which is a website that caters to the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transvestite) community, asked Hardy, “In the film, your character Ronnie is very open about his sexuality but given interviews you’ve done in the past, your own sexuality seems a bit more ambiguous. Do you find it hard for celebrities to talk to media about their sexuality?”
Hardy was seemingly confused and irked by the question. He replied: “What on earth are you on about?”
The reported explained that he was referring to a 2008 interview Hardy gave that implied he had relationships with other men, which the actor later explained was misconstrued.
Still confused, Hardy asked: “But what is your question? Are you asking me about my sexuality?” To which the reporter replied, “Sure.”
Hardy asked again, “Why?” When answered with a pause, Hardy shut it down and said, “Thank you.”
Hardy is married to English actress Charlotte Riley and they are expecting their first child together. Hardy is already a father to son Louis Thomas from a previous relationship.
