Cebu tops Little Milo CV leg

-

CEBU’s student athletes have proven their might after dominating the 20th Milo Little Olympics Visayas Regional Finals, which concluded over the weekend in Iloilo City.

The student athletes of Cebu prevailed in the secondary and elementary sporting meet, shrugging off the home court advantage of the Iloilo-based schools.

The delegation head of Team Visayas Ricky Ballesteros have nothing but praises for the Cebu delegates, and hopes that their performances will carry on to the Milo Little Olympics National Finals in Sta. Cruz, Laguna next month.

“I think the Team Visayas this year is stronger, this is basing from the way they played. It is difficult to play away from home, but they still got great results,” Ballesteros told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.

He said Iloilo is no pushover when it comes to sporting meet, the place is a powerhouse and have fielded in their best student athletes last weekend, but they beat them on their home floor.

Strong

Iloilo is part of Western Visayas, a team to be reckoned with in the annual Palarong Pambansa.

Aside from the schools of Cebu and Iloilo, there were student athletes from Bacolod, Aklan, Antique, Bohol, Capiz, Dumaguete City and Guimaras.

After the Milo Little Olympics Visayas Regional Finals, there are 330 student athletes and 46 coaches that are chosen to comprise the Team Visayas for the 2015 Milo Little Olympics National Finals.

Cebuano majority

Ballesteros said Team Visayas will be composed mostly of Cebu athletes since we won at least 70 percent of the regular 13 events in Iloilo.

Ballesteros hopes that this core of delegates will perform their best against their rival, the National Capital Region (NCR). “The strength of NCR is swimming and I hope we’re going to neutralize that with our athletics and ball games,” he said.

The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles won the secondary title, while the University of San Carlos Basic Education Department (USC-Bed) emerged in the elementary division after three days of competition in Iloilo’s different sporting venues.

Meanwhile, when asked if the Visayas Regional Finals will still be in Iloilo City next year, Ballesteros said they will still meet with the national organizing committee for the decision.
