Aside from providing jobs, the labor chief said the government is also looking at ways to preserve existing employments following the report of the Bureau of Local and Employment Statistics (Bles) showing a slightly higher number of workers being terminated or quitting their jobs during the first three months of the year compared to the accession or hiring rate in Metro Manila.

Bles reported that in the first quarter of the year, the accession rate in Metro Manila was 7.49 percent, while the separation rate was 7.51 percent.

“To preserve jobs for the next three years, we have to ensure that commercial establishments will not close down, despite labor disputes,” Baldoz said.

She explained that maintaining industrial peace is the one that Dole has jurisdiction in terms of job preservation.

On the other hand, Baldoz said it would be harder for the department to intervene in cases of establishment closures due to economic reasons. (HDT/Sunnex)
