Police official keeps eye on money, not crime

-

A lot of people are happy with the transfer of an “enterprising” police official to another special unit.

In his old unit, this official was able to improve his wealth considerably. He even snagged a pretty girlfriend.

But this was no ordinary girl. She was the same girl his team arrested for a money-related complaint.

Observers of this police office can’t help but frown at this official. His predecessor was the complete opposite, for he improved the unit’s performance instead of his financial state.

While the much-disliked official fattened his pockets, the predecessor led his team to arrest many illegal drug peddlers and raid several illegal gambling dens.

A Bzzzz source said that in his new unit, the police official with the not-so-clean image will have fewer chances of getting richer.

Freeloading

A hotel’s experience gives proof of how difficult it is in this country to put up a legitimate business.

The hotel got an inquiry from a councilor of a city in Cebu shortly before the May elections. The official was asking about the hotel’s rates because he wanted to book rooms for a well-known politician.

When the councilor learned that the hotel increased its rates, he got angry. He demanded for a discount and threatened to “use his influence” if the hotel refused. In the end, he got his way.

But the hotel officials were surprised later when the councilor conveniently misunderstood what “discount” means: He practically used the hotel’s facilities for free.

Votes and cash

A former official of a city in southern Cebu has started to lay the groundwork for his quest to reclaim his old post. He has befriended an incumbent official and is trying to convince the other man to switch sides.

People are wondering why the former official is so keen on having the incumbent official to his side. Bzzzzz asked an observer of the local politics in this city and learned that the incumbent official’s value in not just in the number of votes he will generate for the other man, but in the amount of cash he can contribute.

Apparently, the incumbent official spent millions for the candidacy of a newly-elected leader. His generosity, it seems, is well known and other politicians have been wooing him.

“Humot gyud kaayo ka kun daghan ka’g kwarta (Those who have money smell sweet),” the Bzzzzz source said.

Moral teaching

A former student of a university confided to Bzzzz about a teacher who is fond of flirting with pretty students. She said the school ought to investigate the teacher who is reportedly living with a former student of his.

There’s nothing wrong with that because the girl is no longer a student of his, Bzzzzz pointed out.

But the former student said the man and the girl were dating while they were still teacher and student.
