City police on heightened alert

Regional police say they haven’t received threats, but they are not letting their guards down

THE Cebu City Police Office will be on heightened alert today as part of the security preparatio­ns for President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino’s fourth State of the Nation Address (Sona).

All police personnel are not allowed to leave their work and are ex- pected to be at their posts all the time.

Senior Supt. Mariano Natu-el Jr., head of CCPO, said policemen will be deployed in Malacañang sa Sugbo, Fuente Osmeña and Colon St. in case militants will stage rallies.

Natu-el expects the situation in Cebu City today will be peaceful as President Aquino delivers his Sona.

“Sama sa naandan sa una, mingaw ra ta (We’re peaceful),” he said.

Chief Supt. Generoso Cerbo, officer-in-charge of Police Regional Office 7, has alerted all units to monitor threat-groups, such as the New People’s Army.

Attacks “So far, we didn’t receive any intelligen­ce reports that attacks will be made,” he told Sun.Star Cebu.

Cerbo said they are prepared to launch counter attacks against imminent threats and stop violent rallies.

He assured the public the police in urban areas in Central Visayas, especially in Cebu City, are all set.

“We are ready for any eventualit­y,” Cerbo said.
