Fulfillment of a dream
Making the PCCL finals is dream come true for SWU, but they hope to cap year with PCCL title
WINNING the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball title sent the Southwestern University Cobras to the high heavens, but making it to the Final Four of the 2012 Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) is the fulfillment of the team’s short-term goal.
Last Thursday, the Cobras reaffirmed their dominance in the South by beating the University of the Visayas Green Lancers in their knockout duel, 82-78, at the Cebu Coliseum.
SWU head coach Yayoy Alcoseba said that getting to the PCCL final four was one of his goals when he joined the Cobras two years ago. Now that that will be crossed off his wish list, he wants to go further and this time, win the national title.
“When I accepted the offer to coach the Cobras, one thing on my mind was to make it to the PCCL final four. And I realized that deal in two years as a coach. There, we will try to fight even harder to win the title. It could be a tough task but my players are used to this situation now,” stressed Alcoseba.
The Cobras will face National Collegiate Athletic Association champions San Beda College Red Lions in the opening day game on Nov. 21; the Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines champions Ateneo de Manila Univeristy Blue Eagles on Nov. 23; and the Luzon-Metro Manila Champi- ons on Nov. 25.
The Luzon-Metro Manila leg is ongoing this weekend. Adamson University Falcons will play San Sebastian College Recoletos Stags today, with the winner playing the winner between the Univer- sity of Sto. Tomas Tigers and Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights on Sunday.
