Another ‘nanlaban’ killed in Brgy. Agusan

- By Alwen Saliring

Barely three days after two drug suspects were killed by authorities in less than 24 hours, another supposed “nanlaban” drug suspect was killed in an anti-illegal drug operation in Agusan, Cagayan de Oro City, late Monday, October 22.

Killed in what appeared to be a drug buy-bust was 30 years old Jovanie Nazareno, resident of Barangay 35, this city.

Nazareno was the ninth drug suspect killed in the city this year.

Police said the suspect whom they claimed to have been armed with a 45 caliber pistol fired his gun after sensing that he was dealing with an undercover policeman.

The operative who acted as “poseur buyer” was not hit after being able to jump into a drainage.

Authorities were forced to return fire hitting the suspect twice on his chest. He was rushed to the hospital but was

pronounced dead on arrival. Chief Inspector Evan Vinas, police station 6 chief, said the suspect was known to have been selling suspected shabu (Methamphetamine hydrochloride) in the said village.

“Wala mi nahibal-an nga lain niya nga trabaho gawas sa pagpamaligya sa illegal nga droga,”Vinas said.

Superintendent Mardy Hortillosa II, spokesperson of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo), said drug suspects may have conditioned their minds to fight back when they encounter policemen in operations.

“Basin ila napud gipangandaman daan nga kung police ilang ka-transact, musukol gyud sila kay magdala-dala man sila og armas,” Hortillosa said, in response to the spate of drugrelated killings lately.

“Ug karon nga gadala-dala sila og armas it means to say nga dili sila moundang ug murag ipakita nila nga kaya nila ang gobyerno mga dili sila gapatuo sa hangyo nga moundang na,”he added.
