3rd general PTA meeting of PES

- Carolyn Tufay

ONE of the most effective way of maintaining linkages with the stakeholders of the school is launching a general PTA meeting.

Pacda Elementary School held its third General Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) meeting on Nov. 15. The meeting was chaired by Carolyn Tufay.

The meeting started with its preliminaries until it came to its proper session. The agendas are awarding of certificates to deserving students during the second quarter; reporting of accomplishments (pupils); financial updates (MOOE and PTA); updates on fund raising (Tambiola); PTA president hour (sharing on child protection from the meeting attended conducted by the Municipal LGU); Christmas program; signing of cards and other concerns/reminders: Request letter to LCMC for sports materials and children’s behavior/discipline.

During the reporting of the accomplishments, the chairman reported the different activities/ events attended by the students and the minor awards received by the children in some contested events. The parents were given credits for their unending support.

The chairman expressed how proud the teachers are for garnering minor awards despite the fact that their childrencame from a primary school (recently became an elementary school) with lesser population to select qualified and skilled participants.

She challenged the parents to double their effort and continue extending help and support to their children and so with the school activities to garner higher awards to be able to join higher competitions.

Another highlights of the meeting was the sharing from PTA President Nerisa Bumaltao after attending a meeting sponsored by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Mankayan.

Bumaltao pointed out the significant information that she took note. First, a threeyear-old learner should be accompanied by parents before and after class; high school students should be guided by their parents to avoid having vices like drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes and live-in/runaway with classmate (tanan), etc.

The PTA President further explained that parents should find time to be with their children. They should be bothered if their child is not home on the expected time. She also made mention of psychological abuse. To avoid this, parents should not immediately shout and scold their children or utter something bad to them if they have done something wicked, rather they should talk to them calmly.

Bumaltao added the suggestion of the municipal mayor having family house rules. Municipal Ordinances on computer issues were also discussed. Accordingly, computer shops should not accept students as costumers. If violated, the consequence would be to stop the operation.

Obviously, the meeting attended by the PTA presidents conducted by the Municipal LGU aims to strengthen the partnership of the school with the internal and external stakeholders purposely for the betterment and safety of the school children.

Bumaltao insinuated during the session if the Municipal government could help to make a Special Education (Sped) Center at Mankayan possible. She got this idea basing it on the real situation of the children with special needs in Pacda wherein they were not immediately assessed upon entering regular classes in school because there is no Sped Center that is near and accessible. The fulfillment of this dream or plan would be beneficial to both parents and the children with special needs not only in Sitio Pacda but in the whole locality of Mankayan as well.

The meeting went on smoothly until every agenda were discussed. Cooperation, unity and respect among the PTA members was observed up to the adjournment of the meeting.

The chairman thanked everyone for their presence that madethe success of the third General PTA meeting of Pacda Elementary School, Mankayan District.
