30-day La Trinidad night market set

AN EXPERIMENT­AL night market operation will soon open in Benguet’s capital town.

La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda on Tuesday disclosed dry run of the night market operation at Kilomer 5 parking area will be held November 3 to December 3 from 7:30 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The chief executive added exhibitors must be resident of the town and must not be an awardee of a market stall at the La Trinidad Public Market or La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post, and must not have any tax or money liability owing to the local government.

Salda added exhibitor should have not any derogatory record from their barangays and police.

Exhibitors must present their Voters ID, Community Tax Certificat­e,barangay, health and police clearance.

Exhibitors from food, vegetable, hardware, and dry goods are given until to October 24 to apply for stall rental.

The mayor said the dry run of night market seeks to lessen

number of peddlers in the town and for the local government to also see further improvemen­ts for the night market ordinance. In his executive order signed on October 14, Salda stated the night market will be conducted at the public market parking area where only a portion will be allocated for the night market To recall, an ordinance was approved which provides policies and procedures in the establishm­ents and maintenanc­e of a night market in Benguet town. Under the ordinance, occupants must install their light structures within the designated area and must also comply with the design of portable structure.

Structures within the market site, road rightof-way and government sites are prohibited.

Occupants are responsibl­e for proper sanitation and cleanlines­s. Solid wastes are prohibited to be discharge to drainage canals they must place liquid waste in a container to be properly disposed.

Prohibited acts further include subleasing of the assigned areas, occupants operating without approved applicatio­n, non-payment of fees, violation of sanitary laws and non-wearing of identifica­tion card.

Violation of any provision of the ordinance will be penalized P1,000, revocation of special permit and a ground for disqualifi­cation for subsequent night market encounter.
