The schools division of Benguet conducts capability building of teachers Teaching English, Mathematics and Science in grades 5 & 6
WITH the desire to continuously upgrade the teachers on the latest trends in the Department of Education, the Schools Division of Benguet conducted Capability Building of Teachers Teaching English, Mathematics and Science in Grades 5 & 6 at the Deped-Benguet, Adivay Hall on July 14-15 for English (Batch 1) and July 1921 for Mathematics and Science (Batch 2).
The three-day training started with the remarkable welcome of Rizalyn L. Guznian,Ed.D.Chief Curriculum Implementation Division (CID) of the Division of Benguet. She related the parable of the teachers who faced their final judgement. Using the parable she said that “Time is Gold” so that every teacher should facilitate learning with the best they can and constantly nurture every learner. Every moment should be spent to the most especially for the sake of the children. Mr. Wilfred C. Bagsao-Education Project Specialist/Division Testing Coordinator (EPS/DTC), said the purpose of the training is to enhance teachers teaching Math & Science, to bring out innovation from the teachers, and to provide an avenue for professional growth.
These training needs of teachers were identified as a result of the English Proficiency TestProcess Skills Test (EPT-PST) administered to grades V & VI teachers nationwide. This test was significantly meant to identify baseline information on the training needs of the teachers in the implementation of the K to 12 programs of the Department especially in the use of English as a medium of instruction in teaching the major subjects.
The topics presented by the speakers were; Evaluating, Measuring, Quantifying, Communicating, Making Models in Problem Solving, and how to interpret and analyse data presented in graphs. The last part of the training, the teachers were required to make an action plan to ensure possible dissemination of the insights from the training to their respective schools through LAC Session.
In the closing program, Mr. Nestor L. Bolayo, Officer In-Charge-Office of the Schools Division Superintendent, challenged the teachers to continue upgrading their teaching strategies. He also said that as immigrants, and natives of the digital world of the millennial pupils, teachers must technologically empower themselves, should not stop to learn, unlearn, and relearn to ensure utmost transfer of knowledge to the pupils.
