AMP/Black Cows

On April 29, a dream gig featuring the AMP Band back-to-back with the Black Cows will be held at Balete@ Kamias in Quezon City.

TheAMPBand is one of only a handful of groups in the Philippines that still plays big band music—that wonderful, orchestrated harmony of sounds which, accentuated by a horn section, elevates just about any kind of song it interprets.

Led by its musical director, the multitalented Mel Villena, the AMP (Asosasyon ng Musikong Pilipino) is composed of the best session musicians in the country today. On a regular performance, it plays with 18 members.

The Black Cows, meanwhile, is the only Filipino band that plays an allSteely Dan repertoire. That’s no mean feat, because fans know the intricacy that Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen and Walter Becker put into the arrangements of their songs.

Led by its founder, keyboardist and 19 East owner Wowee Posadas, the Black Cows personnel are Pido Lalimarmo (lead vocals, guitar), Bolichie Suzara (bass), Rancis de Leon (alto sax), Ronald Tomas (tenor sax), Archie Constantino (trumpet), Drizzle Muñiz (vocals), Gail Viduya (vocals) and Gibson Viduya (drums). Arnel Pineda, Hard Rock Café

On April 30, the new Hard Rock Café at S Maison in Conrad Manila will celebrate its grand opening with a special performance featuring Arnel Pineda with the band Ice Bucket. Showtime is at 7:30 p.m. Hard Rock Café, Level 2, S Maison, Conrad Manila, Seaside Boulevard, Coral Way, Pasay; tel. 9909809

Pijazz

Also on April 30, the 14th Philippine International Jazz Festival (Pijazz) kicks off with a free show at Eastwood Open Park in Quezon City featuring Damon Grant, Kiss the Bride, Henry Katindig, Jong Cuenco, The Brass Munkeys and Cooky Chua. Facebook: Philippine International Jazz Festival
