JOSE Rizal University tries to top Group A when it takes on struggling Adamson today in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup eliminations at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The Bombers go for a seventh win at 3:15 p.m. against the Falcons, whose coach Kenneth Duremdes was dismissed last week.

Far Eastern University (4-3) also tries to stay in the quarterfinal hunt against Emilio Aguinado (1-6) College at 1:30 p.m. in Group A, while eliminated Group B teams Lyceum (1-6) and Southwestern University (1-5) tangle at 11:45 a.m.

The Bombers secured a quarterfinal berth with a 6-1 record after stunning the erst- while unbeaten Perpetual Help, 67-58, last week.

Paolo Pontejos led the Bombers with 14 point and Cameroonian center Abdel Poutouochi chipped in 12 markers and nine rebounds versus the Altas.

“Last season our problem was offense, but we made it to the (NCAA) Final Four because of our defense,” said JRU coach Vergel Meneses. “Now, we’re still emphasizing defense, even if we have players who can dominate and score.”

The Bombers face a Falcons side that’s still adjusting from the dismissal of Duremdes.

Assistant coach Mike Fermin took over as interim mentor for the Falcons, who are coming off a 68-80 loss to the Tamaraws.
