THE ASSOCIATION of Vehicle Importers and Distributors, Inc. (AVID) reported Thursday a 27-percent year-on-year increase in vehicle sales in the January-July period amid an upbeat domestic economy.

AVID reported that combined sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles of its members reached 18,017 units in the first seven months of 2012 from 14,195 units in the same period last year.

In the same period, the passenger car segment boosted overall sales, which grew by 52 percent to 10,906 units from 7,180 units sold last year.
