Superhero chefs show off their culinary mettle

IT HAS turned out to be a culinary battle of sorts—and just under one hotel roof.

Makati Shangri-La, Manila’s head chefs are unleashing their superhero cooking talents to create authentic buffet spreads of different cuisines at Circles Event Café from Aug. 6 to Sept. 9.

Every night of the week is a feast at Circles Event Café with a highlighte­d cuisine presented each evening, featuring the authentic specialty dishes of each superhero chef.

Superhero chef Hamed “The Hawk” Ghayedi begins the week with a gustatory spread as he brings the flavors of the Middle East every Monday evening with Persian Delights. Chef Hamed is one of the executive sous chefs, and he is in charge of Circles Event Café. He brings with him over 20 years of culinary experience, mostly from various parts of the Middle Eastern region, such as Iran, Oman and the United Arab Emirates.

True to his kitchen superhero alter ego, superhero chef Franco “Casanova” Brodini gives all his love to preparing an authentic buffet of appetizing Italian dishes every Tuesday evening with Notte Italiana.

Chef Franco is the executive chef of Makati Shangri-La, and has been creating a gastronomi­c array of dishes for the hotel for over two years. Chef Franco’s culinary experience spans over two decades, and includes time spent as head chef in prestigiou­s restaurant­s and establishm­ents in parts of Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

The might of superhero chef Gene “D’ Higante” del Prado is witnessed as he brings out a fiesta spread of Filipino cuisine for true food lovers to indulge in. Chef Gene is one of the executive sous chefs of the hotel and ensures that the food served during special occasions celebrated in the hotel is second-to-none. He gives favorite local dishes a unique twist every Wednesday evening at Filipino Fiesta.

Guests who are looking for a spicy way to end the day should try superhero chef Sovan “Bollywood” Singh’s authentic Indian dishes every Thursday evening at Spice Up, India! Lovers of Indian cuisine need not look far for an authentic taste of the region, as Sovan prepares India’s signature dishes in an appetizing spread.

There is no better way to celebrate the end of a workweek than with an indulgent gastronomi­c feast. Guests may start the weekend with a gustatory celebratio­n as chef Yusuke “Seefuda” Hino cooks up the freshest seafood catch on Friday evenings at Seafood Market.

Chef Hino comes from a family of chefs, and brings with him years of culinary experience specializi­ng in seafood dishes. Guests can enjoy dampa style of eating by choosing the seafood of their choice and having them cooked just the way they want.

Guests may feast with a luscious spread of grilled favorites by superhero chef Maran “The Prime” Mariapin, who takes on grilling duties for Saturday evenings’ Off the Grill. Guests can indulge in the highest grade of steaks and barbecue selections, with favorites such as prime rib eye, lamb chops and T-bone steaks to name a few.

Maran is an executive sous chef in the hotel, who has also earned years of culinary experience in various parts of the world, specializi­ng in various cuisines.

Finally on Sunday, guests may enjoy the family day at Circles Event Café’s Sunday Big Brunch with the creations of superhero chef Anthony “The Bruncher” Collar. It’s time to indulge in breakfast favorites prepared by the hotel’s area executive pastry chef, and enjoy the most luscious dessert dishes to cap a hearty meal.
