BEYOND LIFESTYLE AND TECHNOLOGY

- By: JOBERT B. DALUYO

As it spreads across the nation, this pandemic cannot be dismissed as a social problem. However, with the technology we have today, and health problems on the rise and predicted to rise even more after people begin to feel the effects of the current situation, I believe we will definitely see an increase in the number of people engaging in this social isolation.

This is especially true given the rise in legitimate fears we now face, which seem to justify the previously thought of as unreasonable fears of many people associated with social gatherings. While our technology has advanced, our understanding of social graces has declined. As we are all aware, by continuously taking our phones with us wherever we go, we have essentially replaced our closest pals. Even worse is how many people may feel compelled to check their phones during significant or meaningful conversations they are having with people face-to-face, despite the fact that some may argue that the improvements are for the best. When we have spare time in public areas, we take comfort in staring down at our phones. In the past, at these times of lively conversation, it was the best to establish acquaintances.

Similar to this, thanks to technological improvements, it is now possible to both thrive and fulfill many of our social contact demands without ever leaving the comfort of your own home. Unfortunately, along with the success our innovations have brought us, we have also suffered a significant loss.( Contributed article)
