ILOILO – Between April 1 and 19, this province logged an average of 22 cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) per day, according to Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon, provincial health officer.

One contributing factor was the continued COVID-19 transmission at the mega dam construction site of Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. in the town of Calinog, Quiñon said.

As of this writing, the facility had 73 total confirmed coronavirus cases.

The town of Igbaras also recorded local transmissions; 41 cases were detected in less than a week, PHO records showed.

Quiñon has thus intensified the Provincial Health Office’s call for public’s compliance to minimum health protocols. These include the wearing of facemasks and face shields, proper hand washing, and physical distancing.

The same goes to all those working in offices, Quiñon stressed.

“Because once a workplace is attacked ( by COVID- 19), a lot of people will be affected, especially if they treat each other in the workplace as family... remember in COVID friends ‘ or family safe kita,” she said.
