Crossovers shoot for win No. 4

- NIEL VICTOR C. MASOY

CHERY Tiggo shoots for the solo lead in the team standings when it faces PLDT in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena today, February 21. Game time is 6:30 p.m. While the Crossovers remain as the only unbeaten team in the conference with a 3-0 slate laced with nine points, they are still technically second to the Creamline Cool Smashers who might have a 3-1 record but sport 10 points.

Creamline managed to add a point to its previous nine after its five-set loss to F2 last Saturday, staying at the top of the standings in the process.

A win by the Crossovers over the High Speed Hitters, though, would make them the solo leader in the standings.

Auspicious as Chery Tiggo’s start to the conference has been, with Mylene Paat showcasing her steady MVP form, Alina Bicar coming through as a solid setter, Buding Duremdes taking care of the floor defense, and multiple Crossovers stepping up, coach Aaron Velez knows that they’re only as good as their last game.

Chery Tiggo’s last game was against F2

Logistics, with the former winning in a 25-19, 25-14, 25-16 sweep last Thursday.

“We will keep on studying, we’re going to work on our conditioning, we have to prepare. They had a five-setter match against F2 so we can’t be complacent,” said Velez.

“I remind them all the time that we’re only as good as our last game. We just have to keep on learning and strive for excellence all the time.”

Meanwhile, the High Speed Hitters, fifth in the standings with a 1-1 slate, aim for their second straight win after finally barging into the win column with a 25-19, 25-12, 25-21 blanking of Army Black Mamba last Thursday.

Mean Mendrez starred for PLDT in that contest with 11 points as well as Kath Arado who notched 33 excellent digs and 14 excellent receptions.

High Speed Hitters head coach Rald Ricafort said he’s happy with the win but stressed that they have a long way to go.

Meanwhile, the Akari Chargers and the Army Black Mamba Lady Troopers shoot for their first win at the expense of each other as they clash in the first game of the double-header at 4 p.m.
