GSIS opens processing kiosks in ZamBaSulTa

- ANTONIO P. RIMANDO

ZAMBOANGA CITY: The state pension fund Government Service Insurance System installed in the past two months a total of eight GSIS Wireless Automated Processing System (Gwaps) kiosks in ZamBaSulTa (Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi).

GSIS General Manager Rolando Ledesma Macasaet said the unveiling of the Zamboanga Gwaps kiosks “is a part of the pension fund’s continuing goal to bring its services closer to members and pensioners from this [city] and the three island provinces.”

The local kiosks, he added, were installed in the villages of Vitali, Curuan, Ayala, KCC Mall and Baliwasan ,as well as in Bongao (Tawi-Tawi), Isabela City (Basilan) and Jolo (Sulu).

“Members and pensioners, mostly public elementary and secondary school teachers, now can save time and money for travel expenses because they no longer have to commute to the Zamboanga GSIS office to check their membership status,” Macasaet sai.

He added that the GSIS has made available close to 1,000 kiosks across the country.

According to him, the pension fund continues to harness technological advances “to provide greater convenience to its stakeholders in Luzon,

Visayas and Mindanao, particularly the implementation of the GSIS Financial Assistance Loan (GFAL).”

Originally offered to teachers and non-teaching personnel, the GFAL has also been extended to other GSIS members owing to a strong clamor because of the program’s lower interest of 6 percent and longer repayment period of six years, Macasaet said.
