FEBRUARY, being the love month, brings in a lot of shows and concerts in major venues all over the country. Besides our local acts who usually headline and hog the spotlight for this month’s shows, it is also the start of internatio­nal acts coming in to the country for their respective tours and concerts.

Music Geek recommends special shows and concerts this month especially for Valentine’s Day — whether one is single and loveless or enjoy the music along with friends, relatives or loved ones. Pentatonix: The World Tour Live In

Manila. February 8, Smart Araneta Coliseum. Three-time Grammy Award-winning and multi-platinum-selling group Pentatonix has sold 10 million albums worldwide and performed for hundreds of thousands of fans at their sold out shows across the globe. Their YouTube channel boasts almost 17 million subscriber­s, yielding four billion views. Their 2015 self-titled album is certified gold after debuting No. 1 on Billboard’s 200.

Their tracks, “Mary, Did You Know?” and “Hallelujah” were certified platinum, while the Pentatonix original, “Can’t Sleep Love,” was certified gold.

The “Boyce” are coming back due to popular demand. One of the biggest independen­t bands in the world — Boyce Avenue is returning to the Philippine­s for Valentine’s concerts in four venues.

They will be joined by four of today’s most streamed local artists in the Philippine­s — This Band and Top Suzara on February 12; December Avenue and I Belong To The Zoo on February 14 to 16.

Boyce Avenue is a Florida- based band whose name is a combinatio­n of two streets they grew up on in Sarasota. The band is popular for its strong acoustic roots and consists of the three Manzano brothers — Alejandro (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Fabian (guitar, vocals) and Daniel (bass, percussion, vocals).

Formed in 2004, they began posting their videos on YouTube to great success in 2007. They have over 4.8 billion YouTube views and over 13.2 Million subscriber­s to date, making their channel one of the most popular in the world.

Two of the most powerful music artists in the country will perform together for the first time in a concert on February 14 an 15 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Geronimo started her music career at age 14 after winning the singing competitio­n “Star For A Night” which was hosted by Asia’s Songbird.

Sarah’s immense popularity, countless hit songs and multi-platinum albums earned her the moniker “Popstar Royalty.” Besides singing especially every Sunday at the variety show ASAP, she has also tried acting and recently as a coach for “The Voice” (Adults for two seasons, Kids for three seasons and Teens for two seasons). Her song “Tala” (released four years ago) is the country’s current dance craze.

Regine, meanwhile, has been known for her belting style which inspired a new generation of singers like Geronimo, Rachelle Ann Go, Angeline Quinto, Aicelle Santos and Morissette Amon among others. She has also ventured into acting, hosting and recently as judge for “Idols Philippine­s.”

Timeless Hits All- Star OPM #LoveThrowb­ack3. February 15, PICC Plenary Hall.

One of the most talked about Valentine concerts, # LoveThrowb­ack, is set to go on stage once again.

Just like the first and second staging, #LoveThrowb­ack3 will be headlined by an allstar cast that includes some of OPM’s phenomenal female singers like Juris, Nina and Ella May Saison as well as band vocalists Luke Mejares (South Border) and Ito Rapadas (Neocolours).

This show promises to be a night of reminiscin­g good stories and full of songs that has become the soundtrack of our love stories and life.

February 16, New Frontier Theater.

Filipino rockstar and internatio­nal sensation Arnel Pineda’s journey is far from over as he is set to hit the concert stage of the Philippine­s once again. in a post-Valentine concert at the New Frontier Theater (formerly Kia Theater) on February 16 at 7:30 p.m.

Pineda started singing in a band at the age of 15 in Manila and has since then performed in different stages. He was discovered by Journey co-founder Neal Schon after posting cover videos of bands like Led Zeppelin and Journey on YouTube. Pineda became Journey’s new vocalist in 2007 and toured with the band since then, singing classic ballads like “Open Arms” and “Faithfully.”

The American vocal pop group behind the hits “The Hardest Thing,” “Invisible Man,” “Was It Something I Didn’t Say,” “I Do (Cherish You),” “Because of You,” “True To Your Heart” and “My Everything” will be in the Philippine­s for the second time since reuniting in 2012.
