Hawkeyes drub Coffee Lovers in D-League

CIGNAL HD was simply too much and too strong against Gamboa Coffee Mix, scoring a record-breaking 118-51 victory in the Philippine Basketball Associatio­n (PBA) D-League Foundation Cup on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The Hawkeyes used their depth against the Coffee Lovers to set a new mark in the biggest winning margin at 67 points, eclipsing the old 64-point spread set by NLEX in its 125-61 blowout against Zambales M-Builders in 2014. Pamboy Raymundo and Byron Villarias took the charge for Cignal 17 points apiece while Raymar Jose, named to the Gilas pool by head coach Chot Reyes, added 15 markers and seven boards.

Jeremy Bartolo chipped in 14 points for the Hawkeyes, who improved to 4-2 win-loss record. “They are hungry to win. They just did what I told them and I am happy to see a more discipline­d players today,” said Cignal coach Boyet Fernandez, who was also the architect in the previous highest winning margin.

Cignal jumped the gun of Gamboa Cofee Mix, leading by 10 points Hawkeyes stretched their lead to 50-24 going to the break. The Coffee Lovers never had a serious run in the last two quarters to absorb their second straight loss in three games.

Kenneth Acibar scattered 10 points and four boards while Val Acuna contribute­d nine points for Gamboa Coffee playing coach Leo Avenido.

Rob Ebondo followed up his own miss off the glass to give the Scorpions a 71-70 lead with 18.1 seconds left and Joseph Sedurifa win of CEU in three outings.
