The front-wheel drive layout and small displacement may fall short of the expectations its image projects, especially if you hit the highway or seek immediate feedback after accelerator input. Don’t get me wrong; it does get up to speed but it’s just not the breakneck type that you’d expect because of how sporty this unit looks.
No complaints here about the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. It works as advertised and does well to manage the meager numbers of this entry-level GLA.
Ground clearance is pretty good despite its low-slung image. Even when fully loaded, it clears tall humps and steep descents easily and literally without a hitch.
Comfort is as expected of a Mercedes-Benz. Noise, vibration and harshness is kept to almost zero and even with 18-inch wheels, I was hardpressed get a feel of any road imperfections. Value for money

At P2.790 million, it’s still a bit of a stretch from Japanese counterparts but only by some 600k. For that, you’ll get the badge, the luxurious amenities, the city-tuned turbo engine and its famed comfortable ride. If you ever want to crossover to luxury, I highly suggest the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA 180 Urban.
