A married 53-year-old police officer, who was about to check in at a motel with a 20-year-old woman, was gunned down by four still unidentified assailants in Pasig City Thursday night.

The fatality was identified as Senior Police Officer 2 Ernesto Sanchez.

He was assigned at the anti-drug unit of the Southern Police District (SPD).

His female companion, identified as Josebel Polo, was seriously wounded and brought to Rizal Medical Center.

Investigation showed that at around 11:40 p.m., Sanchez was attacked while his car was parked at the Country Lodge compound on Danny Floro St. in Barangay Oranbo.

Senior Supt. Orlando Yebra, Pasig City police chief, said that two of the gunmen disarmed the guards of the motel, while the other two headed to the car of Sanchez and shot him.

"They were waiting for their room. They were about to check in when they were attacked inside the vehicle of Sanchez," Yebra said.

Probers said that the four heavily armed men were aboard a black Toyota Revo with license plate number XAY-567.

Recovered from the crime scene were 14 bullet casings from various guns.

Yebra also bared that Sanchez earlier that day conducted an illegal drugs buy-bust operation in Taguig City.

He added that they are trying to obtain the closed circuit television footage in the motel compound to help identify the killers.
