Sharpshoot­ing store owner guns down robber in QC heist

Astore owner, who happened to be a licensed gun owner, shot dead one of three robbers and wounded two others who were eventually arrested by the Quezon City police last Sunday after carting away P560,000 and mobile phones from his establishm­ent last Saturday.

The Quezon City Police District identified the fatality as Herminigil­do Garcia, 36, who succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.

Wounded and arrested while undergoing treatment at different hospitals were Dino Carlo Buenavesta, 38, and Floro Cabalhao, 48.

According to the victim, who requested anonymity, he and his five workers were manning in the store in Barangay Teacher’s Village West around 7:45 p.m. when a man, later identified as Garcia, showed up.

Garcia pulled out his handgun, declared the heist and seized the cash and mobile phones of the store owners and his employees.

Buenavesta and Cabalhao, meantime, served as lookouts.

As they robbers were about to flee, the store owner maintained his presence of mind, took out his gun, pursued and shot Garcia, who died on the spot.

He likewise managed to shoot the Cabalhao and Buenavesta, who managed to flee aboard a motorcycle.

The police, however, received reports from Malvar General Hospital and Quezon City General Hospital that two men sought treatment for gunshot wounds.

They were later positively identified by the storeowner as the two men who was with Garcia during the heist.

The police also recovered the bag contianing the stolen money and mobile phones from the house of Cabalhao.
