‘Support Earth Hour’

His Eminence Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle invites the faithful to pray the Holy Rosary while observing the Earth Hour tonight from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

“We are inviting you to join in the annual observance of the Earth Hour from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Aside from turning off lights, we are inviting you to pray the Holy Rosary while tuned in to Radio Veritas. For one hour, you will save up on electricit­y, give the Earth a rest, and pray.

Organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Earth Hour is an annual environmen­tal campaign that aims to increase awareness on the effects of climate change. The first Earth Hour started as a lights-off event in Sydney Australia in 2007.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Ismael Sueno enjoined the local government units to prepare appropriat­e activities for Earth Hour that at the same time would provide permanent consciousn­ess on the importance of dealing with climate change.

In Makati City, Mayor Abigail Binay will lead the ceremonial switching off of lights at the Fountain Area of Tower One and Exchange Plaza at the Ayala Triangle Gardens.

Meantime, Sen. Sonny Angara yesterday urged young Filipinos to be “environmen­t warriors” beyond Earth Hour. (With reports from Chito A. Chavez, Anna Liza Villas – Alavaren, Hannah L. Torregoza)
