Tacloban maritime training center exceeds 2016 target
TACLOBAN CITY – The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP), a government maritime training and research center based in this city has exceeded its performance target for this year.
Manuel C. Roldan, NMP OIC executive director, said the center conducted its year-end performance assessment and its accomplishments as of November 30 were presented in the Office Performance Commitment Review (OPCR).
Roldan said NMP set 10,000 trainees as the target for this year, and it trained 10,557 aspiring seafarers, maritime instructors and assessors or other allied personnel in the maritime industry. “This means an accomplishment of 105.57 percent of the 10,000 target trainees to be trained for the year. This is the result of 29 training courses implemented in 2016,” Roldan said.
Roldan said that NMP said all 4,860 trainees received their certificates of proficiency from the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina).
As part of NMP’s commitment to prompt service, all the trainees received their certificates within two weeks after completing their course requirements, he said.
Roldan said 99.11 percent of the trainees who answered a survey rated the NMP training as good or better. “These figures reflect the NMP’s untiring endeavors to ensure the quality of its training offerings,” he said.
This year, five more courses were accredited by the Marina. Another five courses were submitted to Marina for accreditation.
Marina recently completed an inspection that is a requirement before NMP’s application for accreditation of courses is approved, Roldan added.
