21st raid inside Bilibid prison ends with largest haul of shabu
Bureau of Corrections ( BuCor) personnel yesterday seized a kilogram of “shabu” – the largest so far –and several firearms during the 21st raid inside the maximum security compound of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.
In a telephone interview, NBP Su- perintendent Richard Schwarzkopf Jr. said the illegal drug was discovered in the dormitory occupied by inmates belonging to the Sigue-Sigue-Sputnik gang.
BuCor Director Ricardo
Rainier Cruz III and Schwarzkopf led the raid.
Aside from the illegal drugs, Schwarzkopf said that authorities also recovered a .45 caliber pistol, a 9mm Glock pistol and a home-made 22 caliber pistol during the the 21st “Oplan Galugad” operation at the national penitentiary.
“Oplan Galugad” was launched by the Bureau of Corrections in November last year to rid the NBP of contraband items.
“We recovered the shabu at the ceiling outside the dormitory of Building 5, Quadrant 4. This is the largest haul of illegal drugs we have recovered here at the NBP though I don’t know the street value of the illegal drugs,” Schwarzkopf said.
The substance was wrapped in plastic, newspaper and ecobag when it was found by prison authorities.
The official said he has already ordered an investigation to determine how the illegal drugs and firearms were brought inside the NBP and to identify those involved.
“I have ordered a review of the footages taken by our close circuit television cameras to determine who brought it here and how it was smuggled inside,” Schwarzkopf said.
Schwarzkopf said they will turn over the seized illegal drugs to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
