Nostalgic night in MLTR mode
It felt like the ’90s all over again when Danish pop-rock ballad band Michael Learns to Rock serenaded Filipino fans in their one-night only concert Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Michael Learns to Rock, comp os e d o f Ja s c h a Ri c h t e r, Mi k k e l Lentz and Kare Wanscher, went down memory lane as they performed their hits, including “Sleeping Child,” “25 Minutes,” “The Actor,” “Take Me To Your Heart,” “Out Of The Blue,” and “I’m Gonna Be Around.”
The dome turned into a big singalong party. Fans sang loudly and “in tune” with the band.
“Filipinos are the best singers in the whole world. We looked forward to this night because you all sing so well,” lead guitarist Mikkel told the crowd.
Michael Learns to Rock has played hundreds of shows and have toured in many countries, mostly in Asia. They just came from a successful show in Singapore before performing for their Pinoy fans.
Filipinos are known for their singing talent so the crowd screamed louder when lead vocalist and keyboardist Jascha told them they are the best.
“You sing so well, so much in tune. We’re touring a lot and we visit many places and you are the best,” Jascha said.
A good mix of old and young crowd attended their 25th anniversary concert because many of their fans from the ’90s now have children. The band looked extremely happy with the warm response of the fans. Mikkel and Jascha went to the crowd many times and even took selfies with the lucky few.
Michael Learns to Rock has visited the country five times. As it had been seven years since they were here, their fans kept asking for more songs as the concert neared its end. They ended the nostalgic night with “Breaking My Heart.”
With the continuous support of the Filipinos throughout the years, Michael Learns to Rock intends to return anew.
“Thank you so much. We love you. I’m pretty sure we’ll come back to the Philippines again. This is our fifth time in Manila and we’re still here,” Jascha said in closing the show.
