What it takes to serve
Vocational Service is the second Avenue of Service in the Rotary organization. No aspect of Rotary is more closely related to each member than a personal commitment to represent one’s vocation or occupation to fellow Rotarians as it exemplifies the characteristics of high ethical standards and the pride and dignity of work.
Vocational service programs seek to improve business relations while improving the standards of trades, industry, commerce, and all professions. Rotarians around the world understand that each member makes a significant contribution to a better society through day-to- day activities in the business or profession we represent or are involved in.
Vocational Service is often demonstrated by offering career guidance and work-related
information to young people like Rotaractors to enable them to reach vocational choices, which is a critical decision that impacts their lives. Clubs are encouraged to mount forums, conferences and seminars to precisely focus on this objective. Most Rotarians acknowledge the dignity of employment by honoring exemplary service of individuals working in their respective communities. The Four-Way test is often used to ensure that the youth are properly guided to arrive at a right choice. This is
the reason why the second Avenue of Service is fundamental to every Rotary Club.
Leadership qualities are important as a measure of the potential of each person to get the best job possible. One must possess the right attitude, the highest ethical principles and moral values for his/her benefit and that of the organization that will employ them.
We must emphasize that the person needs to possess the right qualifications for the job he or she applies for. We want the youth to be able to identify their strong qualities and characteristics that will guide them towards a successful career path.
This is the objective of Rotary — to enable our international organization to contribute to a kinder, better world by providing the right training to members entering the workforce through the positive example of the successful members who provide practical advice, guidance, and possible references.
It is such a comforting thought that, as Rotarians, we are able to make a difference by touching the lives of our young members through a strong, effective, and meaningful mentorship program that will provide them with the right mindset and skills to enter the world of business and the professions.
