DoLE eyes swift wage gap resolution
Department of Labor and Employment Undersecretary Carmela Torres reported before the Commission for Social Development on 7 February their plans to fast track the country’s employment recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Torres was present during the fourth plenary meeting of the 61st Session of the UN-CSD at the United Nations Headquarters in New york, where she revealed to global labor counterparts and other world leaders about the country’s ways to meet the goals set on the UN 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development.
“The Philippine government remains committed to overcoming inequalities and accelerating recovery from the Covid-19 Pandemic through full and productive employment, decent work for all, and the realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” Torres said.
She presented the government’s accomplishments in employment recovery through the National Employment Recovery Strategy 2021-2022, reporting 913,498 new jobs, as well as livelihood opportunities for more than 35,000 Filipinos and other forms of assistance for nearly 394,000 individuals.
Torres also reported 1.3 million people that have been given training and education, while more than 257,000 businesses and establishments were given assistance.
Citing President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Eight-Point Socioeconomic Agenda, Torres also presented three priority agendas under their National Labor and Employment Plan, including sustainable job offers, an improved labor market that seeks to comply with international standards, and fair social protection for those in the workforce.
