SB19 in full bloom
In a virtual media conference, the Pinoy pop group explained the significance of its newly released EP’s title, Pagsibol
Pinoy pop group SB19 released its first extended play (EP), Pagsibol, on 22 July — describing it as a document of its members’ growth as artists.
It is available on Spotify. SB19 is composed of Josh, Pablo, Stell, Ken and Justin.
Pagsibol, which took a year to record, consists of six tracks: “Mana,” “SLMT,” “MAPA,” “Bazinga,” “Ikako” and “What?”
In a virtual media conference on 21 July, Justin said the group used the term “pagsibol”
— Filipino for “bloom,” as in seeds blooming into plants — to define their own growth in the music scene: “It talks about our journey as SB19 from the beginning to where we are today.”
Pablo added that the EP sounds like a rollercoaster ride for the fans and first-time listeners.
The group explained the new three tracks’ significance: “Bazinga,” an English hip-hop track, is about bashers; “Mana” is an electro-pop tune in Filipino; and “SLMT” is an appreciation song dedicated to fans.
Asked if there’s a K-Pop group it wants to collaborate with, Josh replied: “Twice.”
SB19 likewise guested on iHeartRadio and Rolling Stone magazine’s Twitch stream where the members recounted their musical journey, creative process and the story of Pagsibol.
Spotify has also launched “SB19 A’TIN ’To!” — a feature on Pinoy pride and the story of
Pagsibol through audiovisual art.
Six Filipino visual artists designed jeepneys inspired by the six tracks in Pagsibol.
SB19 performs in an online concert, Back in the Zone, on 1 August at 7:30 p.m.
