Go dares Galvez, Duque: Take first vaccine crack
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go on Saturday dared Vaccine Czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. and Health Secretary Francisco Duque III to set
an example by being first to be inoculated with the vaccine against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) to prove its safety to the public.
“And I’m challenging Secretary Galvez, along with Secretary Duque, they should be first in getting vaccinated to encourage the people to be vaccinated,” Go said during the Laging Handa brieefing.
He added that many Filipinos are still doubting the safety of the COVID vaccines.
“It is important to prove that the vaccines are safe and effective as many are still scared. During my visit to different areas, when I asked those who want to get the vaccine to raise their hands, many are still doubting. We should first ensure the safety of the vaccine,” Go said.
At the same time, the senator said President Duterte handpicked Galvez to lead the vaccination program of the government as he is confident the official can effectively perform his task of ensuring that all Filipinos will be covered by the vaccination program.
“The government has a roadmap that is being implemented by Secretary Galvez. He was tasked by President Duterte to be the focal point. The President does not want many people, Secretary Galvez is in-charge,” he added.
Go also called on Galvez to prioritize the poor and the vulnerable sector in access to COVID vaccines.
“That’s why during my conversation with the President, he wants to prioritize the poor and he wants the vaccine to be given for free. The government is preparing for this. As a senator, I allotted budget for the vaccine. If it’s not enough, the government will find ways,” he said.
He added that aside from the poor, priority should also be given to the frontliners, soldiers, teachers, senior citizens and those who are working.
During his part public address, the President said he was willing to be the first to get vaccinated once a vaccine is available.
