Rizal High School (RHS) in Pasig City, the country’s largest secondary school, has started conducting a simulation on what can be expected once Academic Year 2020-2021 starts on 24 August.

RHS also distributed learning packages to parents attending the five-day preparation, which started Monday.

Principal Gilbert Inocencio said the learning packages contain printed modules, printed worksheets, ballpens, pad papers, parents and learners guide and program schedule. Laptops or tablets will also be available courtesy of the local government.

“On 24 August, students won’t come to school. Distant learning starts 7 a.m. We intend to distribute all learning packages before the opening of classes,” he said.

Inocencio said Bright Future Foundation, Inc. donated some of the materials in the learning packages under the program “EduKahon.” The group is composed of RHS alumni led by president Sally Magat.

“We are grateful to all individuals and groups who donated learning packages,” Inocencio added.

Based on the latest records of Rizal High School, 11,425 students have enrolled for the coming school year, a little higher than last year’s 10,800.

Inocencio said students from private schools have transferred to public schools. They expect the number to reach to more than 12,000 once late enrollees come in.

“This is what I am usually telling our parents. Don’t be scared of transferring your children to Rizal High School and other city schools. The Pasig government and other city schools are up to the challenges of the pandemic,” Inocencio said.
