NLEX Harbor Link section opens
Motorists including truckers and cargo haulers are expected to benefit from the opening as it cuts travel time to and from Manila and NLEX to 15 to 20 minutes
The 2.6-kilometer section of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Harbor Link is now open to motorists beginning today, two months behind the original March schedule due to coronavirus crisis.
The completion of the New Caloocan Interchange (C-3) to the Mel Lopez Boulevard (R-10) section will provide direct access going to Navotas City and NLEX.
It also extends the existing 5.65-kilometer NLEX Harbor Link
Segment 10 that passes through Karuhatan, Valenzuela City, Gov. Pascual Avenue in Malabon City, and 5th Avenue/C3 Road in Caloocan City bypassing EDSA and the Balintawak Toll Plaza.
Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, in a virtual briefing over the weekend, said the project is the first to be completed during the coronavirus lockdown.
Villar noted that motorists including truckers and cargo haulers are expected to benefit from the section’s opening as it cuts travel time going to and from ports in Manila and NLEX to 15 to 20 minutes.
The newly opened section of the NLEX Harbor Link also includes three exit off-ramps, namely Segment 10-C3 Ramp to Caloocan City, Dagat-Dagatan Ramp to Malabon City, and C3-R10 Ramp to Navotas City.
The elevated expressway, tagged as among the key infrastructure projects that would ease EDSA traffic, was implemented under the government’s “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure program.
It was undertaken by NLEX Corporation, a subsidiary of the Manny Pangilinan-led Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC).
Pangilinan over the weekend said they hope to aid the country’s economic recovery by finishing as many tollways projects as possible by June 2022, before President Rodrigo Duterte steps down from office.
