Heart talks about a home

HEART EVANGELISTA-ESCUDERO is not an interior designer, but she is an artist and artista (actress) and she comes from an affluent family, so it follows that she has an eye for beauty and elegance. When asked how she decorates and styles her own home, she said to always follow your heart over what is trendy.

“Your home or the way you fix your things represents who you are. A lot of people think everything has to match or everything has to have a certain look. But I think this is too stiff, I like it with a beautiful mess. It’s really the way you put things together that makes it look authentic. Express yourself because how you fix your home is actually also art. It’s an outlet for you,” she said at an afternoon tea spent talking about furniture and home design on Sept. 19.

Not the brand ambassador, but more of an avid fan, Ms. Evangelista was the guest for the media showroom preview of Ethan Allen, an American brand for furniture, decorative accents, beddings, lightings, and rugs. In the Philippines, Ethan Allan is distributed by Focus Global, Inc., which has showrooms in Bonifacio Global City and Pioneer, Mandaluyong City.

Ethan Allan is holding a series of talks each month featuring celebrities and their home decorating tips. This month is about home design using plants, among other decorations, with Ms. Evangelista holding a mini workshop called “Tea Tuesdays.” The workshops are exclusively for Ethan Allan customers.

When asked what are her home musthaves, Ms. Evangelista said she likes mirrors, plants, some splash of colors, and accents like wood and brass.

“I like everything white, everything timeless and clean. But since I’m also an artist, I want to see a burst of color, some accent in a piece of furniture or a splash of color. I got a lot of my furniture from my Dad’s house. He loves collecting furniture, so I was able to get a lot from him. I got my blue and white accent jars also from him,” she said.

Her major home tip is to create an atmosphere where people living in a house can relax and get a feeling of being at home. —
