THE sports program of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde got added boost recently with the groundbreaking of its Sports-Dorm Building.

Located at a 4,196.8-square meter lot area at the end of San Isidro St. in Pasay City, the building is scheduled to be completed in 2018 and is expected to be home to Benilde’s various scholars.

The Sports-Dorm Building is part of the school’s Benilde Campus Development Master Plan (Benilde CDMP), which is designed to identify major infrastructure development for the next three to five years.

The proposed Sports-Dorm Building will include several athletic facilities from basketball, volleyball, badminton, and swimming. It will also house studios and training room for Tae Kwon Do and other martial arts including gym for weights and endurance training with physical therapy facilities. The facilities will allow flexibility of use for large gatherings of the community as well.

The dormitory component of the project, meanwhile, will see it house its scholars, provide accommodation for transient guests such as visiting professors, lecturers, and exchange students that Benilde has developed from the various linkages and partnerships with different schools, non-academic organizations, and private corporations.

A BIG BOOST

“I’m very delighted, excited and looking forward to the completion of the dorm and sports complex. We truly will have a training facility that our Benildean athletes can call ‘Home of the Blazers.’ It will also make training much easier for most of the athletes since the dorm will be right beside the center. It’s going to be safe and convenient for the student athletes. The design was also made very suitable for the end-users. Aside from the courts, offices, the weights room and rehabilitation center will all be situated in one place,” said CSB Center for Sports Development Director Stephen V. Fernandez in an interview with

“I know with the completion of the complex our recruitment will have a major boost. We (coaches/athletes) hope to continue ‘doing ordinary things extraordinary well’ and with the venue that the school has provided for the athletes, I know that day in and day out they will give their best in return to bring honor to our school.” he added.

School officials said that they hope that the Sports-Dorm Building would highlight their commitment “to building a just and humane society by being at the forefront of innovative education that is accessible to the poor and diversely gifted learners.”

This is apart from providing help in furthering its growth as an institution. —
