12 anyos ikukulong, ‘greatest sin’ –PIMAHT

Sinabi ng Philippine Interfaith Movement Against Human Trafficking (PIMAHT) na ang panukalang ibaba ang edad na maaaring panagutin sa krimen ang isang indibidwal ang magiging pinakamalaki nating kasalanan sa mga bata, at sa susunod henerasyon, kapag ito ay ipinatupad.

Ito ang idiniin ng grupo matapos parubahan ng House of Representatives nitong Lunes ang House Bill 8858 na nagbababa sa minimum age of social responsibility (MASR) sa 12 anyos mula 15.

“Contrary to common knowledge, children represents a low percentage of the total population in conflict with the law despite many reports that the juvenile crime rate is increasing and that children under 15 are committing crimes under the control of crime groups,” saad sa pahayag ng PIMAHT.

“Poverty and lack of opportunities to the majority of Filipino families in our country are the very same drivers that breed vulnerability to children to be in conflict with the law,” dagdag ng grupo.

Hinimok ng PIMAHT ang gobyerno na sa halip ay pagtuunan ang pagtataguyod sa mga karapatan at kapakanan ng mga bata, at tugunan ang mga ugat ng problema sa lipunan na nagtutulak sa mga bata na gumawa ng krimen.

Iginiit ng PIMAHT na hindi kriminal ang mga bata.

“To protect their rights, and ensure their safety is our utmost concern. A violent and punitive environment is not the answer,” ayon dito.

Ang pahayag ay nilagdaan nina Bishop Ruperto Santos ng Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, Bishop Rex Reyes ng National Council of Churches in the Philippines, at Bishop Noel Pantoja ng Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches at iba pa.
