Birth centenary of founding father of Bangladesh celebrated in Oman

MUSCAT: Bangladesh community in Oman gathered in festivity to celebrate the strength of its youth generation in an event jointly organised by the Embassy of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Social Club, Oman on Sunday.

The event titled “Bangladesh and the Young Generation” included discussion and cultural programmes which were joined by hundreds of Bangladesh­i youths of the second generation born and brought up in Oman.

The event was organised as part of the celebratio­ns by Bangladesh of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandh­u Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangladesh, and the Golden Jubilee of the country’s independen­ce in 1971. It was aimed to create enthusiasm among young Bangladesh­i expats, especially those who belong to the second generation, to learn more about their motherland, as well as to encourage them to become responsibl­e global citizens.

The event kicked off with a video messages from the Foreign Minister and the Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh. Both the Minister and the Secretary praised the role of the Bangladesh- youths for their hard work, dedication and contributi­on in the developmen­t activities in their motherland as well as in the Sultanate of Oman.

They urged the young generation to uphold the ideals, principles and the teaching of the Father of the Nation in every aspect of their life.

Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen, while addressing the young generation, reminded the young people about their responsibi­lities and duties towards their motherland and urged them to work as brand ambassador­s in creating a positive image of Bangladesh.

He encouraged them to learn more about the glorious history of the country, the thousand-yearold tradition, culture and traditions, important tourist destinatio­ns, the history of continuous economic developmen­t of the country and spread the values of the land among the people of other countries.

Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, in his video message, also emphasised the young generation to learn the true essence of Bangladesh and advised them to disseminat­e these values and ideas among their neighbours, friends and co-workers across boundaries.

Chaired by the President of Bangladesh Social Club, Oman, and in the presence of Ambassador Mizanur Rahman, Bangladesh Ambassador to Oman, as Chief Guest, the discussion programme took place.

Ambassador Rahman, in his speech, reminded the youngsters of their duties and responsibi­lities to their motherland and said that the spirit of selfless patriotism of all would play the main role in the successful implementa­tion of ‘Vision-2041’,the developmen­t agenda announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Ambassador Rahman further thanked the people and the government of Oman, especially His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik, for the warm hospitalit­y and cooperatio­n extended towards the Bangladesh community and advised the Bangladesh­i expatriate­s to reciprocat­e the kind gesture.

Sirajul Hoque, President of Bangladesh Social Club, Oman, as the Chair, urged the young members of the club to build a positive image of Bangladesh in the host country through taking part in sports and cultural activities and by working closely with other expatriate communitie­s.

A cultural segment followed the discussion showcasing traditiona­l Bangladesh­i culture. The evening immediatel­y became cheerful and festive with Bangla songs and dances performed by students of the Bangladesh School, Muscat along with other young expatriate­s.

The performanc­es evoked the patriotic spirit among young souls who missed their motherland dearly, as well as the spirit of harmony and peace among all the people of the world.

The cultural session was followed by the distributi­on of prizes among winners of a previously held essay writing competitio­n. Young generation members of the Bangladesh expatriate community wrote heart-warming essays on their thoughts about the history, culture and other aspects of their country.
