OCA Annual Walkathon goes virtual

The event will be organised on May 22 and May 23, 2021

-

MUSCAT: The Oman Cancer Association (OCA) will organise its 17th Annual Walkathon virtually, reaching out to people in the country and globally.

Working on the latest platform developed specifically for the virtual walkathon and also for use in the near future for other awareness programmes and conferences, the event will be held on Sunday, May 22 and Monday, May 23, 2021. The platform can be accessible for 48 hours continuously for the comfort and safety of the registrants and their families from their homes.

The OCA is proud of this platform, as it will support the organisation in achieving its mission. The Association’s platform for the virtual walkathon is immersive, interactive, enjoyable and is easy to use and can be accessed from a number of different modern devices.

The walk is estimated to be for just over an hour and a half and while virtually walking, the registrants will have an opportunity to become aware of the status of the Association both locally and globally and will be introduced to many of the Association’s programmes including its vision, mission and objectives.

Walkathons

The registration is being offered free of charge. This is to support and prepare the community and their families for a practical experience into the virtual world so as to be involved in the future virtual walkathons.

The registration will be through its website and the document attached will help the visitors during the registration process. The Association thanks its team who have worked very hard and tirelessly for building this highly technical platform.

The OCA is a 20-year-old nongovernmental, not-for-profit charity organisation whose inception was in the year 2000 and was fully active in 2002. In 2004 it was registered at the Ministry of Social Development.

The Association is the brainchild of a four-time cancer survivor Mrs. Yuthar Al Rawahi.

The Association thanks Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Saidi for accepting to be the patron of this unique, humanitarian and landmark programme despite his busy and overloaded schedule.

COVID-19 pandemic

The global COVID-19 pandemic amongst other negative issues has changed the modus operandi for awareness events.

The OCA is being very diligent to fight the pandemic. It is practicing and applying the government directives and creating awareness for cancer while supporting the cancer patients, their families and the community at large.
