MUSCAT: An Omani’s personal vision for the country in 20 years can now win him or her OMR2,000, thanks to a nationwide competition.

Wallah Nistahel, an activist team that works on educational media among other things, said, “‘I See Oman’ is a competition organised by Wallah Nistahel in cooperation with Vision 2040. Imagine if we asked you how you see Oman in 2040? You have a chance to win OMR2,000, OMR1,500, and OMR1,000. Your age and gender don’t matter, nor do we care if you’re a person or a group of persons. If you’re interested in YouTube and video production, answer our question in a 2-3 minute video.”

Business spirit

Qias Al Maqrashi, head of the group, said, “I see an increasing interest in supporting the business spirit of the youth. This ties into the main idea of this initiative: to bring in the youth of the country in a different way that moves away from conferences and workshops, and towards a method that allows them to imagine their ideas in a clearer way. Conferences have their targeted demographic, such as experts and officials. But this can recruit our young in a creative way. There are many Omanis who are already creative and engaged. This is an opportunity for them to use that to express their own perspective.”

Logistics hub

When asked about his own vision for the future, he said, “Personally, I see Oman moving to support the enterprises of our youth. I also see the country moving towards logistics. Oman should become a global logistics hub.”

An official with Oman 2040 said, “The citizen has a right to participate in everything that involves the country. His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said has directed that Vision 2040 must be prepared using widespread community contributions. We at 2040 have made use of many tools to reach all demographics in the Sultanate in all relevant sectors. ‘I See Oman’, in cooperation with Wallah Nistahel, can be seen as the brainchild of Qais Al Maqrashi and Dr. Mutassim Al Maamari, which should act as a connector between the society and us. We intend to activate and empower the society so it can contribute to the country’s future.”

He added, “We as a team expect to see a creative vision that closely resembles our national project. This is a way to make that future more accessible to the viewer.”

The competition is only open to citizens. “We have not limited the language to be used while participating in the competition, but it is only open to Omanis, since it is exclusively related to the future of this country.”

Fourth Revolution

“The registration window was open between September 16 and 30,” a statement by the group said, adding, “Submissions close on October 11. Applicants are encouraged to tackle, health, education, the Fourth Revolution, culture, cities of the future, logistics, industry, or the society.”
