Omani boy feted for saluting police rescue team’s efforts

Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance has honoured Khalil Al Khalfan, the 10-year-old boy, for his attitude and commitment towards recognisin­g the hard work of the police rescue team

MUSCAT: Do you remember the picture of a young boy saluting a police rescue team for their commendabl­e job during the rainy days earlier this month? If yes, then the boy is in the news again today. The Pub- lic Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA) has honoured Khalil Al Khalfan, the 10-year-old boy, for his attitude and commitment towards recognisin­g the hard work of the police rescue team.

Khalfan was honoured by PACDA in the presence of top officials at a ceremony. The PACDA operations centre had received 332 rescue calls during a low depression in Oman during the first week of March. PACDA data recorded 255 water rescue operations, 37 land rescue operations, 29 fire extinguish­ing operations, eight ambulance related calls, and four search operations.

As for the calls recorded by the various governorat­es, Al Batinah North registered the highest number, at 95 rescue operations, followed by Al Dhakhiliya­h, which recorded 67 rescue operations.

Muscat came in third with 51 rescue operations, followed by Al Buraimi, which recorded 43 reports. Al Sharqiyah North reported 27 such incidents, Al Batinah South 26, Dhahira and 23 while only one rescue operation was carried out by PACDA in Al Sharqiyah South. Eight lives were lost during the heavy rainfall that hit Oman earlier this month.
