Foreign ed institutions blacklisted by MOHE
As part of the efforts to protect students from falling into the trap of fake universities or joining unrecognised educational institutions, the committee for recognition of non-omani higher education institutions and equivalence of qualifications has issued some decision in this regard.
The committee at the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) rejected an equation of qualifications issued by some higher education institutions in the United States as they are not recognised by the government there. “These institutions have no brick and mortar headquarters except on the website. The committee included them in the list of fake institutions.”
These institutions are Rochville University, Ashley University, American Mideast University, Newport University, Walesbridge University, Panworld University, Barrington University, Gibson University, Adam Smith University, Washington International University, American University of Professional Studies and Riverwood University.
The MOHE also issued decisions with regards to the institutions in Malaysian and Egypt among others.
The committee issued a decision related to the educational system in Malaysia, where it agreed to allow the Omani student to enroll in only fully accredited programmes, and not just any Provisional Accreditation.
“For students who wish to study scientific disciplines with a research system for the PHD stage only and without a full-time course; it is required that they coordinate with the University in Malaysia on the necessity of appointing an academic assistant supervisor accredited by it to supervise the student from Oman.”
