Sixth Qais Celebration to be held at Ghala Golf Club
MUSCAT: Ghala Golf Club will host yet another edition of its annual tribute open tournament, as a mark of respect to Oman’s greatest golfing legend, late His Highness Sayyid Qais bin Tareq al Said.
Held under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Taimur bin Asaad al Said, the event will tee off on March 16 with golfers from all over Oman participating.
“HH Qais was the driving force behind the development of golf in Oman. He represented the nation in different tournaments and his contributions to the game have been phenomenal. I was very fortunate to work closely with him when I first came to this amazing country and saw upfront the passion he had for the game. A truly remarkable person” stated Leon Sassen, General Manager of Golf World.
The celebration tournament aims to commemorate the many achievements of late HH Sayyid Qais al Said by bringing different golfers together in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
The Qais is traditionally a Single Stableford format held over two shotguns on the day. An early morning one and afternoon start. Last year the tournament welcomed over 150 participants. This year the numbers are similar with the emphasis of course enjoyment.
“We want players to enjoy themselves on the course and we are trying to cut down the time taken to finish their round. This event is special and I want everyone to walk away happy from participating in it” says Ahmed al Farsi, Golf Operations Manager, Ghala Golf Club.
