Omani Students Society took part in the Global Village event, a cultural programme, at Southampton University, United Kingdom, on Tuesday.

The Students’ Union of British Southampton University, in association with the AIESEC, organised the event, which is aimed at developing, introducing and connecting cultures. A total of 20 different student associations contributed to the event.

Omani Students Society showcased Omani traditions and cultures. The Omani section saw some 200 academics, students and visitors from inside and outside the university. The society organised many activities, including an exhibition of Omani crafts such as potteries, and traditional silver jewellery. Books and CDs on Oman’s culture, tradition and natural spots were handed to visitors, besides photos capturing Oman’s nature and famous tourist destinations.

Attendees relished Omani homemade halwa along with coffee. Visitors to the Omani exhibition had an opportunity to try out the traditional attire. Arabic Calligraphy was one of the activities organised on the occasion. Many had their names written in Arabic.

A competition was organised that saw questions posed to attendees and visitors. Those who got the answers right won Omani handmade crafts as gifts.

The event is held once a year to introduce different cultures that the students of Southampton University belong to, besides creating an environment for cultural exchange.
