ACTION AND AFFECTION
Thefallguy has been lauded for two reasons – it was a tribute by stuntman-turneddirector David Leitch to his former profession and at the same time a presentation for the masses of a romance between characters played by two charming actors, Ryan Gosling and
Emily Blunt.
Inspired by a TV series of the same name, that was popular 40 years ago, the story of this movie revolves around a stuntman who gets blown up, shot, crashed, thrown through windows and dropped from the highest of heights, all for our entertainment. Fresh off an almost career-ending accident, this working-class hero has to track down a missing movie star, solve a conspiracy and try to win back the love of his life while still doing his day job.
Directed by David Leitch, The Fallguy is a feature-length stunthighlight reel that’s been padded with romance, a minor mystery, and plenty of light moments, the kind of self-regard for moviemaking that has been in vogue for nearly as long as cinema has been in existence. And the audience laps it all up with delight.
Gosling’s energy and screen presence are overpowering and one can see that he seems to be enjoying every bit of playing his character. Emily Blunt is also great and together the duo perfectly dial in the chemistry and romance between their characters in a way that feels natural.
Overall, Thefallguy's main mission was to entertain and audiences come out of the cinema with a broad smile having enjoyed every bit of it. The humour may not be pleasing to all but one can surely dub this movie as ‘real fun’. In essence, it is a celebration of movies and a salute to stuntmen.
