Mar Thoma Church celebrates 50 years in Sultanate of Oman
The Mar Thoma Church in Oman is entering into its 50 year. As a part of its yearlong Golden Jubilee Celebrations, the Inaugural Function was held on Friday at the St Thomas Church in Darsait Church Complex.
Among the dignitaries who attended the function were H E Amit Narang, Indian Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman; Rt Rev Dr Euyakim Mar Coorilos Suffragon Metropolitan, Senior Bishop of Mar Thoma Church; Dr Wahid Ali Said al Kharusi, President & Chairperson of Oman Cancer Association; Chandy Oommen – a legislator from the Indian state of Kerala; leading Businessman from Oman and philanthropists Dr P Mohamed Ali and Kiran Asher and Lead Pastor of PCO Rev Mitchell Ford.
The Parish with humbleness remembered late Sultan Qaboos. The Parish thanked His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs for all the support extended to the Parish in these 50 years.
Rev Sajan Varghese, Vicar of Mar Thoma Church in Oman delivered the presidential address followed by Inaugural Address by the Bishop and Felicitation Speeches by the Dignitaries. Rev Binu Thomas, Assistant Vicar was also present in the function along with the Office Bearers, Executive Committee & Golden Jubilee Committee members of the Parish.
Priests from different Church’s in Oman were present in the function as well.
Binu M Philip, General Convener of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations, presented the Mission and Vision of the Parish in the Jubilee year which includes responding to various social causes in Oman and India and different programs throughout the year.
Major initiatives include supporting Oman Cancer Association and a Rehabilitation Center for Mentally Ill Ladies in India among the many other charitable activities.
