CDAA to observe World Civil Defence Day on March 1, focus on sustainability
Oman, represented by Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA), will join the global community in observing World Civil Defence Day on March 1.
This is in line with the International Civil Defence Organization's decision to commemorate the day across the world, underscoring the critical role civil defence agencies play in safeguarding life and property.
This year's theme, ‘The Role of Civil Defence in Sustainable Development’, highlights the contribution of civil defence in ensuring public safety, mitigating risks and implementing emergency response measures. The theme emphasises the significance of civil defence efforts in promoting sustainable development goals by protecting communities and minimising the impact of disasters.
The celebration serves as a platform to foster preventive awareness in communities, aiming to enhance the security and safety of individuals and their properties. A variety of awareness-raising initiatives are planned, including television and radio broadcasts, newspaper articles, seminars, lectures and the distribution of informative materials in public spaces.
In a concerted effort to engage all social segments, the
CDAA has prepared an array of activities. These include awareness programmes, events and field visits to rehabilitation centres, hospitals, airports, ports and service stations across the governorates with the aim of reaching a wide audience.
Additionally, on May 6 and 7, the authority is set to host the second edition of Oman Civil Defence and Ambulance Conference and Exhibition. The event is part of a broader initiative that also features two awareness exhibitions in Buraimi and Dhofar. Approximately 5,000 community members are expected to receive training in security, safety and first aid as part of this event.
