- Raheem Akingbolu

The Rotary Club of Lagos has been described as the flagship of Rotary International District 9110. The club has also been commended for upholding the ideals of Rotary International and urged to move beyond its comfort zones to impact other clubs in the district.

District Governor of District 9110, Nigeria, Dr. AdewaleOgunbadejo, who made the observation during his visit to the Club at Lagos Motor Boat Club, Ikoyi Lagos, said he was impressed by the conduct of the club and urged them to continue to sustain its leadership position in the District. The DG was received by President of Rotary Club of Lagos, Rotarian Soboma Ajumogobia, President Elect, Mr. Ehi Braimah, board members and other members of the club. The District Governor, who is expected to visit about 100 clubs that fall under the District, said visitation to all clubs in the District is one of his major responsibilities that he was committed to achieve during his tenure. He commended the organisational skill displayed by the Rotary Club of Lagos during the meeting and called for collaboration between the clubs and other clubs in the district.

“Visitation to various clubs is one of my primary responsibilities as District Governor. It is statutory. Through the visits, I will be able to get firsthand information about the state of various clubs and will know the advice to give and steps to take to address important issues. Today’s visit is particularly unique because of the status of the Rotary Club of Lagos as the flagship club of the district and father and mother of all clubs. I hereby advise them to continue sustaining the tempo and use their position to boost the image of Rotary Club by working in line with this year’s theme; Rotary: Making a Difference.”

While commending the leadership of the club for transparency and clarity in running the affairs of the club, he called on them to go out and scout for new members so as to deepen the growth of the club and become a mega club with at least 100 members.

Speaking on the legacy he would like to leave behind as District Governor during his tenure, Ogunbadejo again referred to the 2017 theme of Rotary club which is on making a difference.

‘’In line with this year’s theme of Rotary International, by the time my tenure ends, I want to leave behind a legacy that will represent what Rotary is all about –humanitarianism. Again, in line with Rotary Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Rotary International that is concerned about doing good in our various countries under me would have impacted well on the society. I want to be remembered as a District Governor whose tenure witnessed developmental projects that touch the lives of people in various communities.
