LASU to Hold Quality Assurance Retreat for Staff
In a bid to improve service delivery at the Lagos State University (LASU) to conform to global best practices, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun, has announced that the management, in conjunction with the National Universities Commission (NUC) would hold a quality assurance retreat for members of staff this February.
Speaking recently during the inaugural university congregation meeting of his administration, held at the LASU New Auditorium Complex, Fagbohun said: “Today is not a day for long speeches. I am just a symbol of our collective responsibility. It will be collective governance. Committee system will drive the university forward. The committees will be vibrant and they will focus on different facets of the university. All of us will be part of decision making of this great university. We will continue to resolve our issues internally.” At the interactive session, issues bothering on staff welfare, staff recruitment, infrastructural development, promotion, TETFund, training, LASU International School, admission process, staff estate, health centre, sports, alumni, security, beautification of environment, LASU land encroachment, among others were discussed with meaningful contributions by members of staff.
Responding to the questions raised, Fagbohun affirmed that work has started earnestly on some of the issues discussed, especially the urgent and pressing ones. He also cautioned members of staff to refrain from saying negative things about the university. “We will welcome constructive criticism. We must love ourselves, be willing and ready to forgive one another. If there is anything we take away from here, it is never ever say anything negative about LASU anymore. Thank you all for your robust contributions.”
The high point of the meeting was the nomination and election of Mr. Larry Okegbuan as representative of the congregation on budget monitoring committee. A member of the congregation, Saheed Oseni nominated him and the nomination was seconded by Dr. Adekunle Idris. The sole nomination was elected unopposed by the congregation.
